Clinical Description
James A. Patton, Ph.D., graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1966 as Scholar of the University and earned his doctorate in Physics from Vanderbilt University in 1972. He then joined the Vanderbilt Radiology faculty in 1972, and he is currently Professor of Radiology and Physics and has been the director of the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program since 1979. He served as vice-chair for finance and administration in the Radiology department for 11 years. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology in Nuclear Physics. His clinical and teaching responsibilities are in the areas of physics and instrumentation in Nuclear Medicine and PET. Patton has co-authored nine textbooks, 76 book chapters, 84 articles in referred journals and 57 articles in proceedings. He has served on the board of directors and as president of the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine and the SNM's representative on Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board for eight years. He has also served as president and as a member of the council of the Southeastern Chapter of Society of Nuclear Medicine.
