Clinical Description
I am a pediatric radiologist at our children’s hospital. I first trained in Pediatrics, subsequently in Radiology and finally as a pediatric radiologist, and am Board Certified in Pediatrics, Radiology, and Pediatric Radiology. Currently I am the chief of Pediatric Radiology and the Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. I am a tenured Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, and Professor of Pediatrics.

My major interests and research lie in the area of quality and safety, appropriate imaging of children, gastrointestinal and genitourinary imaging, and ultrasound and CT. I am Past President and Board Chair of the Society for Pediatric Radiology, have served on the Editorial Board of the journal Radiology, and currently continue to serve on the Editorial Board of the journal Pediatric Radiology. I have chaired the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Committee for Pediatric Radiology of the American Board of Radiology, and hold its Lifetime Service Certificate. I have chaired multiple committees in the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the American College of Radiology, where I have been intimately involved in the Commission on Education, and the Commission on Quality and Safety, including the writing of multiple Practice Guidelines (now Parameters) in Pediatric Imaging. Currently I serve as Chair of the Pediatric Commission in the Board of Chancellors of the American College of Radiology. I am a founding member of the Steering Committee of The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, and led its Fluoroscopy initiative.

I have authored or coauthored over 120 peer reviewed articles, served as co-Editor of Caffey’s Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging, and authored over 40 chapters. I have been fortunate to receive the Caffey Award for best research in Pediatric Imaging, and the Minnies’ award for Best Philanthropic Campaign, awarded for the fluoroscopy initiative of The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging.
