A postdoctoral position is immediately available in scientific group led by Dr. Vasiliy Polosukhin and Dr. Timothy Blackwell, Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Our research group studies pathogenetic mechanisms of small airways diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and constrictive bronchiolitis. Specific focus of our research includes identification of mechanisms of impaired epithelial immune barrier in small conducting airways in small airways diseases and further modeling of these processes in both in vivo and in vitro systems. This postdoctoral trainee will involve in our current projects using a multitude mouse experimental models (inhalation exposure to cigarette smoke and sulfur dioxide), multiple genetically modified mouse lines, air-liquid interface cell culture. Histopathological analysis of human lung parenchymal tissue samples is also planned.

Qualifications for the Position

Candidates must have an MD and/or PhD in a medical or biological sciences field, should have ability to work both independently and collaboratively, possess strong oral and written communication skills and have a strong foundation in bench science. Successful candidates should be highly motivated and should have an expertise with human lung tissue samples, mouse models and cell culture. Specific expertise in immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization techniques, cytokine analysis and microbiome knowledge would be helpful. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, data collection and review, abstract and manuscript preparation and local and national scientific presentations.
