Research Description
Manus J. Donahue, PhD was educated in the public school system in Denton, TX. He then graduated from Duke University in 2003 (BS: Physics; BA: Philosophy) and in 2007 earned a PhD in Biophysics from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Neurology at The University of Oxford (2008-2009), he joined the Vanderbilt faculty and currently has appointments in Neurology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, and the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science.

His work is focused on using new computational approaches to characterize tissue function in health and disease. These approaches are sensitive to physiological parameters such as lymphatic function, blood flow, blood volume, pH, oxygen extraction fraction and the cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen, parameters that may adjust prior to symptom expression and irreversible tissue damage in many diseases. Dr. Donahue is the PI of four NIH-funded trials in which these approaches are applied in patients with atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease, moyamoya disease and syndrome, and lymphatic disorders; he is also the Vanderbilt site PI of the multi-center SPRINT blood pressure trial, and the CEO of biosight, LLC which provides healthcare technology and clinical trials consulting services.
