Research Description
Blood pressure control:
Investigate the role of transcriptional regulators in the regulation of blood pressure using in vivo mouse models, such as specialized kidney cell knockouts. A key question my lab will pursue is whether Sox6 is a regulator of cell’s responses to blood pressure changes by inducing the expression of proteins involved in salt metabolism, water balance and/or acid balance. We aim to identify new small molecules with the capacity to increase the expression of Sox6 in mammalian cells both in vitro and in vivo. Using these small molecules we will be able to test whether the temporal increase of Sox6 in vivo may improve the response to blood pressure changes.

Renal development:
Investigate the role of transcriptional regulators in kidney development. My preliminary data suggests that Sox6 is critically involved in the development of the kidney. We aim at elucidating the function of Sox6 during development using in vivo mouse models to determine the specific cells expressing Sox6 in the developing kidney. We will then determine the mechanism using standard biochemical approaches.
