Research Description
Dr. Yu’s major research interests include (1) epidemiology and prevention of chronic diseases through healthy diets and lifestyles; (2) biomarkers and metabolomics in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease; and (3) diet-gut microbiota interactions and host cardio-metabolic health. Dr. Yu has identified several dietary factors and novel biomarkers in relation to the risk and mortality of major chronic diseases by using resources from large prospective cohort studies of multi-ethnic populations, including the Shanghai Women’s Health Study, the Shanghai Men’s Health Study, and the Southern Community Cohort Study. She has also played a leading role in multiple international consortium-based projects involving study participants from the US, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Yu’s current research projects focus on diet, gut microbial metabolism, and host cardiometabolic health by integrating advanced metagenomics and metabolomics technology into epidemiologic studies.

Research fellow—Molecular Epidemiology (focusing on metabolomics or gut microbiome)
We are seeking applications from strong candidates for a research fellow position in the Division of Epidemiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The successful applicant will work on NIH-funded projects that apply multi-omics approaches in epidemiologic studies, e.g., metabolomics and metagenomics, to examine the role of diet, lifestyles, gut microbiota, and microbiota-host interactions in metabolic diseases. The successful applicant will work with a multi-disciplinary research team to perform high-dimensional omics data analysis and statistical analysis, write manuscripts, and present research findings.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical, statistical programming, writing, and collaboration skills. Experience in metabolomic or metagenomic data analysis is desirable.
