Research Description
The Suver lab studies how the nervous system predicts and learns about the world using state of the art tools in Drosophila. Our goal is to elucidate the cellular and molecular underpinnings of coordinated activity between sensory and motor systems to tune sensation and enable behavior. To understand fundamental properties of neural circuit function, we use a combination of whole cell patch clamp recordings and 2-photon imaging in behaving flies, combined with immunohistochemistry, genetic tools, connectomics, and quantitative behavior. We are a new and growing lab, with diverse members who are committed to supporting an inclusive research environment. Appropriate undergraduate projects depend on the student and experience in the lab, but may include immunohistochemistry and connectomics, and machine learning-assisted quantitative behavior. Located in the Department of Biological Sciences, we also benefit from our interactions with the Vanderbilt Brain Institute.
